In 1992, a group of Park City community leaders formed the Domestic Peace Task Force in response to the well-publicized and shocking murder of a woman by her estranged husband in a Park City parking lot. In 1995, the Peace House Shelter became a reality and continues to provide a safe haven for women and their children seeking to escape domestic violence.
In the years since it began as a safe haven for victims of domestic violence, Peace House has evolved to include education and outreach programs designed to reduce the violence and abuse in our community's families.
Peace House Shelter
Peace House can shelter up to 15 people (a combination of women and their children). The shelter is a 24/7 operation, consisting of four full-time and five part-time case managers and advocates. Assisted by volunteers, they offer a variety of services to help the families achieve self-sufficiency and dignity.
These services include support groups, parenting classes, safety planning and domestic violence education. We also connect the women with other agencies and nonprofits that can provide them with needed services such as legal, medical, housing, financial and jobs.
Outreach Program
The Peace House Outreach Program is designed to identify at-risk families and help them avoid domestic violence crisis situations. This program includes education, support groups, direct intervention and case management. Outreach is an important component of the Peace House mission to break the cycle of domestic violence.
Education Program
Peace House provides education about violence prevention to the children in community schools. The programs teach students how to recognize and protect themselves from abusive situations, who they can safely talk with about their concerns and what to do when they find themselves in potentially dangerous situations. These include: physical and emotional abuse, bullying, safe dating, internet safety and unhealthy relationships.
A huge portion of the Peace House success in the past can be attributed to the hard work and dedication of the Park City Board of REALTORS Philanthropic Foundation. Without the financial support of this foundation, we would not have the ability to serve all who need us.
Your contribution to the Luxury Home Tour and Auction goes directly to help women and children in our shelter, in our schools and in our community.
Thank you for your support and caring.
Sincerely,
